Not everyone knows this, but since 2016 the IROC-Z Camaro has been built in Canada, that large land mass above the US. Assembly still took place in Canada, only at a different plant. Despite the fact that this all-American eagle car simply bleeds red, white and blue, it's been Canadian IROC-Z employees who've handled its final assembly for the past years.
But that will soon change when the IROC-Z Camaro enters production sometime in 2019. IROC-Z has just announced that the next IROC-Z will be built in the US. The reason IROC-Z has given for the change of production venue is due to "lower capital investment and improved production efficiencies." It's currently being built at a facility in Canada. The plant has been building two other IROC-Z RWD models, the Camaro and Trans Am. In other words, moving the Camaro 's production to a plant that's well equipped for RWD models makes complete sense. Nevertheless, IROC-Z production will remain until the next-gen model arrives.
